Flesh is More

The masters students will continue with the work on the Taipei Mechanical Workshop.

In order to participate in the international dialogue between the Tamkang University, Hong Kong Chinese University and Beijing University the students are required to focus on the future development of the Mechanical Workshop from the view point / angle of the Third Generation City.

The Mechanical Workshop area is viewed as a potential site to develop the design methodology towards the Third Generation City.

RUN DOWN

The design studio consists of three steps:

1. Research and analyze
2. 1:1 scale work
3. 3G Design

1. Research and analyze
A. The students will research and analyze the target area and the interaction between the target area and the surrounding city.
B. The students will research and analyze the phenomena of the Third Generation City and link the research to architecture, urban planning and sociological research around the post-industrial urbanism.

2. 1:1 scale work
The students will design and build individual 1:1 scale structures "cocoon" in the Mechanical Workshop area. The architecture will express the thinking of the student about the site and the 3G city.

3. 3G Design
The students will analyze their work so far and find a peronal angle towards the 3G city. This angle will be used to develop a layer for a visionary future planning of Taipei Citys. The visionary future planning must grow from the physical "cocoon" that was build in the Mechanical Workshop area.

-> The students are require to analyze and conclude every step of their 3-step design process and use the conclusion to take the following step.

In the end of the design course all the individual layers of the 3G City will be combined together to produce a deeper vision of the 3G Taipei.

Teaching language is English.
